DEALS, Deals, and More Deals

As we get closer to Christmas, stores are offering more and more discounts, deals, and special offers to entice customers. this year, there are more Christmas-focused pre-Black Friday deals than ever before, with stores in a never-ending competition to snag the most customers and the biggest profits during the most shopping-focused time of year.

Some pre-Thanksgiving deals have already come and gone, and the Black Friday deals are too numerous for me to detail here. Instead, I'm simply listing some of the current offers that I find to be the best deals / the ones I'm most likely to use myself.

Because there are so many deals this time, I'm putting them all below the fold, so to speak. Click through for all 8 deals, which include Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Sears, Target, J.Crew Factory, Snapfish, and Bath & Body Works. Happy shopping!

Free eBooks: 11/15/2011

At the start of every month, you can usually snag some pretty good books as free e-books from Amazon.com (for Kindle) and Barnes & Noble (for nook). The University of Chicago offers a free e-book each month as well. This month there were several nonfiction books on writing available for free, as November is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), but I only picked up a few of those offered. Read on to see the 14 freebies I've snagged so far this month, with book descriptions from the sites and links to purchase them.

Please Note: While all of these books were free at the time of my purchase, that does not guarantee that they are still free or that they will remain free. Make sure you check the price listed before purchasing any books.

Free eBooks: 10/31/2011

In the first half of October, I picked up 31 free e-books from Amazon.com (for Kindle) and from Barnes & Noble (for Nook). The early part of each month is definitely the better time to get free books; the selection has tapered off since the 15th and I've only gotten 12 more freebies since then. Read on to see the 12 freebies I've snagged since October 15, with book descriptions from the sites and links to purchase them.

Please Note: While all of these books were free at the time of my purchase, that does not guarantee that they are still free or that they will remain free. Make sure you check the price listed before purchasing any books.

Event: UMD Midnight Madness 2011

I love free events, so last I was psyched to go to the University of Maryland's free Midnight Madness event last night, Friday, October 14. Last night's event, which is a scrimmage / pep rally type event to open the basketball season, was the university's 40th Midnight Madness so, in addition to the usual festivities, there were video reminiscences from past coaches and players.

What's great about this event is that there's something for everyone. The night included various competitive games for the students, who could win Under Armour apparel, gift certificates to the book store, and other goodies; an alumni basketball game featuring some great players from the history of the school's basketball program; performances by the cheerleaders, the dance team, and Gymkana, a gymnastics group open to all students that made it to the semi-finals on America's Got Talent this season; and, finally, the introduction of both the women's and men's basketball teams followed by scrimmages. The stadium's food booths were open and serving their (expensive) fare of hot dogs, pizza, and soda. And it appeared there were giveaways, too, as I saw many students with posters and new T-shirts.

Free eBooks: Vook Classics

In September, Vook made many of their Kindle-only Enhanced Vook Classics available for free on Amazon.com. Heading into October, they've made another batch of Enhanced Vook Classics free for Kindle, bringing me to a total of 37 free classics. The "enhancements" in these editions appear to be the inclusion of illustrations and photographs, as well as the formatting and editing standard in print editions but usually lacking in free digital editions of classics.

Read on to see the 21 free Vook classics I've snagged this month, with book descriptions from the sites and links to purchase them. (Find the descriptions for last month's Vook classics here.)
