HAUL: $40 at Salvation Army

Despite promising myself after Saturday's haul that I wouldn't go back to Salvation Army for a few weeks, I wound up taking my sisters today, since they're in town. We all snagged some great deals, so they'll be posting their hauls, too.

  1. Awesome stuff!! Any tips for where to find shoes? I need new work heels but don’t want to spend a ton of $$

    • Thank you!

I really haven’t bought new shoes in a long time (which is weird when you think about how often I shop for other stuff). When I do need shoes, I usually go to Marshalls or TJMaxx (those two stores tend to have similar stock, since they’re owned by the same company), Ross, or Payless. I’ve found some good deals in the clearance sections at stores like DSW and Famous Footwear, but in general I find even their clearance prices are higher than I like to pay.

I usually do have pretty good luck at the Marshalls/TJMaxx/Ross type stores; you just need to have a little more patience while searching because they don’t always maintain the shoe section as well as more expensive stores do.

Oh, I’ve also found good deals on the clearance racks of department stores like JCPenney and Macy’s.

  2. Natalie, I like having LOTS of shoe options but don’t want to go broke getting them. I usually buy my shoes at Marshall’s or the Navy Exchange (where I have shopping privileges) and usually from the clearance racks. But one of my favorite pairs of shoes came from Payless about six years ago. I bought a pair of open-toed pink heels for $15 to wear in a fashion show. I wound up standing for a really long time in them and discovered how comfortable they were! I went back and got the same pair in black–and THAT is the pair of shoes I like so much that I don’t want to get rid of them. (But they’re getting pretty worn out after so much use, so I hope to find a good replacement pair soon.)

  3. Thanks for the tips! I usually buy from Payless/ Target and the two that I wear pretty regularly are from there. I’ll have to check out Marshall’s, TJMAXX and Ross though! I stopped in DSW the other day and went straight to the clearance section but there weren’t many choices for my work and the prices weren’t where I wanted to be. I’ll let you know what I find! And it’s nice that Payless is having back to school sales!

    • No problem! I usually have the same problem with DSW, Famous Footwear, etc… the prices are good compared to the MSRP, but not for my budget! The discount store trifecta of Ross, Marshalls, and TJMaxx usually has a nice variety of price ranges (usually starting around $20 for heels), and then their clearance prices are, of course, even better. And, unlike some stores, they usually have a fair amount on clearance, no matter what season.

Looking forward to hearing how your search goes! I should probably do a shoe-centric post at some point, since I haven’t posted about shoes at all yet.

  4. The pink, floral, allover-print dress looks like a great find — I bet it’s very flattering!

    • Thanks! It is flattering… the shoulder-span is a little wide for me (I’m narrow in the shoulders, apparently), but I always wear sweaters over dresses like this anyway, so no one will ever know!
